Mercury Baroque
With the 2010-2011 season, Mercury Baroque marked its tenth full year as a dynamic member of the Houston arts community. Founded as a chamber ensemble, the group has grown into a full baroque orchestra performing a subscription season of concerts in downtown Houston, touring domestically and internationally (include a critically acclaimed production of Lully’s opera Armide in Paris in September 2010), and building a strong tradition of baroque music performance in Houston. It plays a series of chamber music concerts at the Museum of Fine Arts, and has established collaborative partnerships with other local arts organizations, including Dominic Walsh Dance Theater, the Bach Society Houston and Several Dancers Core. Mercury Baroque’s outreach programs, designed to train the city’s young musicians and create the audience of the future, include both individual instruction from Mercury musicians and full-fledged concerts for students.
